Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally

Math Hour (morning session)

Join Ms. Allison in exploring the antics of Aunt Sally. We’ll cover the individual components of the order of operations during the first 6 weeks, then move into putting it all together during the second half of the course. This course will be interactive, game-based, and fun, while we master the math behind PEDMAS.

It will be expected that students in this class are familiar with the concepts of addition/subtraction and multiplication/division, though they do not need to have them mastered or the tables memorized. They should be adding/subtracting fluently within 10 and have a general grasp of the basic skip counting, such as 0, 1, 2, 5, 10.

Write Your Story

Language Arts Hour (morning session)

This 12-week writing course is designed to help students expand on their current writing abilities. For our youngest students (who can sound out cvc words and write their letters), we will work on writing sentences. For our most advanced students, we will perfect the art of the 5-paragraph essay. Writing this semester will focus on personal narrative and creative writing. To further our writing skills, we'll also study stories by diverse authors and analyze the elements that create compelling tales. In November, students will particpate in National Novel Writing Month.

For this course, students may bring a device with a keyboard to type their writing assignments, if you prefer. There will be no internet service for students and they will need to email or print their assignments for the next week's class. Student devices will be soley the responsibility of the student, so please ensure that your student can care for it properly and has proper storage.

Xs and Ys

Math Hour (morning session)

All right stop, collaborate, and listen. Allison's back with a new class addition. Graphing, listen and learn closely, all kinds of graphs will start to make sense slowly. Will it ever stop? Yo, it sure will. 12 weeks of class and your minds will grow. To the extreme this class will rock like a party, learning all kinds of graphs 'til you feel all smarty.

In this class, we'll be exploring a variety of different types of graphs, including pie, line, scatter, coordinates, and more. We'll learn how to interpret them, as well as when and how to use them.
